Research interests: Sea turtles, sharks and other large pelagic animals. My field of research has involved population dynamics and applied ecology for marine ecosystem conservation and fisheries management. I have focused my research on the study of the reproductive biology, ecological role and connectivity of highly migratory organisms by the use of mark and recapture, stable isotopes, genetics and satellite telemetry, among others. I have done extensive research on sea turtles from the Galapagos Islands and currently undertaking a satellite telemetry shark tagging project on pelagic sharks in Chilean waters. I currently hold a position as Researcher in the Fisheries Research Division at the Fisheries Development Institute (IFOP), Chile.

Another waterbird ecology project implemented by him at the internationally important Chilika Lake (Orissa) has documented the nutritive value of guano deposited by waterbirds and the beneficial role played by them for the fishermen.
